FAQ
-
We are not a news outlet, supplier of a popular Lululemon pant, or regulatory body governing alcohol sales in Utah. ABC stands for Avenues Bicycle Club, and we are a growing group of friends who love to ride bikes. We are passionate about the sport, but more importantly, about the relationships ABC has created.
-
ABC executives have aligned themselves with the National Democratic Redistricting Committee in an attempt to fight back against gerrymandering and neighborhood discrimination. According to the latest census data, ABC is ecstatic to report we have club rider representation from 10 of 19 Salt Lake City neighborhoods! We also have riders in Seattle, Sacramento, Philadelphia, Boston, Williamsburg, Bozeman, and Norway! All are welcome on ABC rides regardless of address. ABC Worldwide!
-
Nope! We’ll do a charitable event or two each year, and that might be a good time to donate to a cycling cause you’re passionate about, but no pay-to-play rules at ABC.
-
We love riding bikes with good people. It’s really that simple. Come out for a ride and you’ll quickly realize it’s more about the community and relationships than it is about riding fast. Turning massive watts is cool and all, but laughs with friends is really our priority.

Firstly, let’s review the rules:
Rule #12 — The correct number of bikes to own is n+1. While the minimum number of bikes one should own is three, the correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned. This equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner.
—VelominatiABC riders are jacks of all trades, and we don’t discriminate against surfaces. We do it all, and you should too. We’ll aim to have 60% of our rides on road, 20% on trails, and 20% on gravel.

Every Thursday evening from the beginning of April until the beginning of November. Timing is sort of fluid . . . we’ll start around 5:30pm in the spring but then trend later through the summer in an attempt to beat the heat. Thursday night ABC rides also provide a good opportunity to coordinate weekend riding plans, morning rides, etc., with smaller groups.
-
ABC riders often volunteer to host the club back at their house for libations and snacks after Thursday night rides. For whatever reason Bagel Bites became a Thursday night post-ride staple. And hot dogs. Sometimes mini-corndogs. Your 3rd grade diet all over again.
-
ABC’s youngest rider is 5 months old and our oldest rider if 63. A recent statistical analysis of ABC’s age composition suggests an average age of 35 years 11 months, with a standard deviation of 8 years 2 months. All ages are welcome on rides, but if a ride just happens to end with a pit stop to a local saloon, you’ll be on your own to provide proof of age.
-
No! But we’re still a long way from where we’d like to be. We have a number of female riders, but admittedly our rides have consisted predominantly of male riders. All genders, orientations, colors, cultures, religions, ages, sizes, and abilities are WELCOME!
-
You’ve graduated from training wheels or a Strider bike, right? OK, you’re good.
Sometimes we’ll have riders show up who had a tough day at work and just want to take it out on their pedals, but we’ll always have a social grupetto and a game plan for a meeting spot if the group gets too strung out. Who cares where you are in the cycling and fitness journey — just come out and ride.

Forward, brim down, maximum luft. Next question.
Note: Google Miguel Indurain (how did it even stay on?) if you have any questions or give Talking Luft a listen if you want to hear some opposing opinions.

We have some items in stock (caps, socks, and Party Shirts), and we do an annual order through Giordana for jerseys, bibs, vests, thermals, etc. We typically do an order in the fall, but we can place an order at any time if there is enough interest (we just need to hit a minimum order quantity). So, reach out if you’re interested and we’ll start building the queue for the next order!

And, we’re planning to coordinate our philanthropic efforts geared toward the Utah cycling community.
Lastly, we have our annual holiday party at our RoHa Brewing Project.
